The story is set in 1532. Esteban (a young Spanish boy) joins a trip to the New World in search of the mysterious Cities of Gold.
In South America, Esteban, Zia, Tao, Mendoza, Pedra and Sancho become embroiled in conflict between Spanish and various populations.
